1-2, Premier League, Emirates, 2012-01-22
van Persie 70
Our third consecutive defeat... Things are looking really glum at the moment and that fourth spot seems to be out of reach this season. But what I can't understand are some of the fans' opinions of the game!
Wenger substitutes Oxlade-Chamberlain (man of the match and supplied the assist for van Persie's equalizer) and the entire stadium starts booing and after the game everybody says that 'Wenger cost us the game' and 'it's the worst substitution I've ever seen' etc. Unbelievable! The kid is 18 years old and it's his first start in the prem! It's amazing that he looked that fresh for 75 minutes! And who are they to question a man that has led this club to tons of major trophies! Sure it was some time ago but have some faith!
And like it's not enough to have a go at the managers, some comments made about the players are just awful! It would seem that the only player not getting scrutinised at the moment is Robin van Persie (great goal today but had loads of opportunities to score more, yet you don't hear as much about his misses as for example Walcott's).
I am ashamed of some of the fellow Gunners who, instead of supporting their team, spends all their energy finding faults and trying to bring their players down. Instead of giving Oxlade-Chamberlain a standing ovation for his contribution and giving Arshavin that little extra boost for coming on virtually everyone starts booing. Do you think that made anyone feel any better...? Do you think Alex felt prouder that everyone booed because he had to be substituted than if they'd have cheered for him...?
Now I shall take some time away from football to try and get past this evening and I hope that Arsenal Football Club will stand united at the next game.
