Germany's stay in the tournament came to an end in the semi-finals. Lukas Podolski started the game for the Germans, who were completely stunned to find themselves 2-0 down at the end of the first half. Unfortunately, Podolski was replaced at half-time, and Germany did not find the equalizer after scoring from the penalty spot in the final minutes. Per Mertesacker did not feature for Germany.
This means that the final will be between Spain and Italy.
